Largest markets
Valley and Ridge
Folded and faulted Cambrian–Ordovician limestone, dolomite and shale in alternating belts. Differential settlement over pinnacled limestone — rock at 3 ft under one corner and 30 ft under another.
Central Basin (Outer)
Ordovician limestone, outer basin sequence. Differential settlement over variable residuum depth.
Central Basin (Inner)
Ordovician limestone — Carters, Ridley and Murfreesboro formations. Sinkhole subsidence and differential settlement where soil depth varies over pinnacled rock.
Western Highland Rim
Mississippian limestone — St. Louis and Warsaw formations. Perched water tables in chert-clay causing chronically wet crawl spaces.
Cumberland Plateau
Pennsylvanian sandstone and shale caprock over Mississippian limestone. Chronic crawl space moisture from poor drainage and high rainfall, not sinkholes.
Eastern Highland Rim
Mississippian limestone — Ste. Genevieve, Monteagle and St. Louis formations. Sinkhole collapse and settlement in deep compressible residuum.
Blue Ridge / Unaka
Metamorphic and clastic rock — gneiss, schist, sandstone. Slope creep and colluvial movement on steep building sites.
Counties
Why West Tennessee isn't listed
Our contractor network covers Middle and East Tennessee. Memphis, Jackson and the western counties are outside the coverage area for foundation and crawl space work, so we don't publish pages we can't service.
